Deal of the century in lines

After a long wait and anticipation, Us President Donald Trump revealed during a press conference at the White House, in the presence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his promised plan for peace between Palestinians and Israelis, known as the Deal of the Century.

The plan guarantees continued Israeli control of most of the West Bank occupied by Israel in 1967, the annexation of the vast settlement blocs in the West Bank to the State of Israel and the remaining united city of Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty.

Israel has pledged to limit settlement activity in the West Bank for four years, which is the period granted to the Palestinian side to approve negotiations with the Israeli side to implement the plan.

Trump: Proposed Peace Plan "Last Chance" for Palestinians

But even before Netanyahu set foot on Israel's land back from Washington, he announced that he would submit a proposal to the Israeli Knesset to unilaterally annex the strategic Jordan Valley and West Bank settlements to the State of Israel.

The Palestinian state, which will be built under the plan, will have a capital named Jerusalem anywhere else, but it has nothing to do with the city of Jerusalem, which will remain united under Israeli sovereignty and its capital, and the Palestinian capital will include some remote suburbs of East Jerusalem, which was captured by Israel in 1967.

As for the Haram al-Sharif in Jerusalem, the situation would remain the same and Israel would continue to protect the holy places in Jerusalem and ensure freedom of worship for Muslims, Christians, Jews and other religions.

Under the plan, Jordan retains its responsibilities to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

Deal of the Century: Big risks and poor chances of success

The economic part

On the economic front, Trump said that one million new jobs will be created for Palestinians if they accept the implementation of the plan, and the poverty rate will be halved, which will increase the gross national product of the Palestinian economy while saving $50 billion to spend on infrastructure and investment projects. Over a period of 10 years for both the Palestinian state and its neighbors Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon.

The Palestinian state will not be allowed to establish or operate a port in Gaza in the first phase, and instead Israel will provide through the ports of Haifa and Ashdod the necessary facilities to import and export goods and materials for the Benefit of the Palestinian State during the first five years, after which the Palestinian state can establish a port in Gaza after fulfilling the security requirements of the State of Israel. The Gaza Strip will be connected to the West Bank through a tunnel

The 181-page plan, published by the White House on its website, "Peace on the Road to Prosperity," speaks for the first time about the theme of "Jewish refugees", meaning Jews who lived in Arab countries before the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948 and the emigration of many of them to Israel or other countries.

The document states that the Arab-Israeli conflict has created an almost equal number of Palestinian and Jewish refugees and asserts that Jews who fled Arab states suffered like their Palestinian counterparts.

The document emphasizes the rejection of any return of Palestinian refugees to Israel and the dropping of any future claims for compensation. Every Palestinian refugee who does not enjoy citizenship rights in any country has three options: to return to the new Palestinian State, depending on the state's capabilities, or to grant him the right to settle in the country in which he or she resides, based on the country's consent or to include it in the programme of distribution of Palestinian refugees to the willing member states. In the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, each country accepts the absorption of 5,000 refugees a year over a period of 10 years.
